Sydney (Australia), January 9 — The family of a recently married nurse say her death was a "terrible, terrible accident" after she fell from a seventh floor balcony of a Western Sydney apartment as fresh details emerged about an odd phone call that took place before her passing.
Deekshya Dahal, 39, fell from her unit in Parramatta last Thursday about 1:45am, with police finding her on the street with critical injuries and unable to be saved.
Ms Dahal had only recently married her husband Labrinda Subedi, 40, in Nepal and were planning their future together which included kids.
The family of the couple broke their silence this week, describing the fatal fall as a "terrible, terrible accident" and that Mr Subedi has been left heartbroken.
"Labrinda, he is a broken man… they were in love, not long married, very happy… planned to have children," Ms Dahal's brother told The Daily Telegraph.
About two hours before the incident, emergency services received a call from her unit, which she shares with her husband, and only heard background noise.
A call taker rang the phone number back when a man, believed to be Mr Subedi, answered and was advised officers would swing by in the night for a welfare check.
According to The Daily Telegraph, a passer-by later noticed a woman holding onto the balcony of a River Rd unit and immediately called Triple-0 for help.
Police arrived within one minute of the call, but it was too late.
Ms Dahal suffered critical injuries and died at the scene.
Her husband was taken for questioning and was released pending further inquiries, while detectives were seen speaking to other residents in the complex.
One line of inquiry is if Ms Dahal had climbed onto the balcony following an argument.
Police have described the investigation as "complex".
Officers have also previously interacted with the couple, including taking out an interim apprehended violence order against Ms Dahal to protect Mr Subedi in mid December.
Photos on social media showed the nurse on her wedding day all smiles dressed in a traditional dress as she prepared to marry the "love of my life".
Another picture showed the couple embracing and holding two glasses of champagne celebrating with friends after their nuptials.
No charges have been laid.
