CK Raut opposes 'two-party dictatorship', criticizes election threshold proposal

Kathmandu, January 9 — Dr. CK Raut, the Chairman of the Janamat Party, has expressed opposition to a two-party dictatorship.

He also stated that the government is preparing to set a 5% threshold for the federal elections and a 3% threshold for the provincial elections, a move he claims the Nepali people will not accept.

On Thursday, writing on social media, Raut said, "In a country like Nepal, which is rich in religious, linguistic, cultural, geographical, and ethnic diversity, the voice of even the smallest group should be represented in the parliament so they can at least raise their issues."

He emphasized that any law or regulation should be subject to scrutiny in the parliament, where representatives should be able to voice their concerns.

Raut further criticized the electoral threshold provision, saying, "The provision to reject the votes of 30-40 lakh people and unfairly distribute their share to larger parties through a loophole is unacceptable to the public."

He warned that if the law is amended in this way, the party is ready to struggle against it. "We are ready for a struggle. Nepal does not need a two-party dictatorship," Raut added.
