Secretary of Vice President's Office arrested

KATHMANDU, May 3: Police arrested the secretary of the Vice President's Office Tek Narayan Pandey on Wednesday from Pepsicola, Kathmandu.

An official of the Vice President's Office informed Ratopati that Pandey was arrested from Pepsicola, who has been accused of doing fraud by sending Nepalese citizens to the U.S. by making them Bhutanese refugees.

Police have been claiming that there is political involvement in the fraud business of making Nepalese citizens into Bhutanese refugees. Police have also already arrested Dr. Indrajit Rai, the Security Advisor to the then Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa.

The police obtained an arrest warrant from the court to arrest Pandey on Wednesday. Before working in the office of the Vice President, he was the Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs and he has been accused of conniving with gangs of making Nepalese refugees into Bhutan since then. Police officers say that the accused have mentioned his name repeatedly during their statements.
