Local people demand management of under construction Banchare landfill scientifically

Kathmandu - The local people have demanded management of the under construction Banchare landfill in a scientific way. The government has designed the dumping site where wastes from the Kathmandu Valley would be dump as the Sisdol landfill in Nuwakot has been filled. They also demanded fulfillment of their past demands before dumping wastes from the Valley at the site.

Construction of the long-term dumping ground located at the border of Dhunibensi municipality-2 in Dhading district and Kakani rural municipality-2 in Nuwakot district has reached its final stage, it has been said. Waste from the Valley having Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur districts had been dumped in the Sisdol dumping site for the past 16 years.

The local people affected by the Sisdol landfill have accused the Kathmandu Metropolitan City of not implementing the 18-point agreement reached beforehand, thus affecting public health. Chairperson of Kakani-3 Ghana Nath Bajgain accused the concerned authority of not coordinating with the respective ward office in managing garbage from the Valley.

Ward chair of Kakani-2 Kedar Poudel stressed the need for reaching an agreement with the affected local people in this regard. Local residents Shriram Dhungana demanded 3,000 meters land accusation of the affected 13 villages for the construction of the dump.
