Betrabati–Shortage of anti-snake venom has marred patients in Nuwakot. Patients have been compelled to reach Kathamndu in want of treatment due to acute shortage of anti-venom medication in the district.
Bhuwan Raj KC, Public Information Officer at the District Hospital Trishuli, said the crisis was resulted from ignorance from the centre to send anti-snake venoms.
It may be noted that the supply was not made based on the government data stating Nuwakot did not have health issue of envenoming. According to him, at least five snake-stung cases weekly come to the hospital from Nuwakot and neighbouring districts, Rasuwa and Dhading.
The patients have been sent to Kathmandu in lack of the venom. "It was found that the poisonous snakes have entered into the district while transporting construction materials from other districts, especially Terai", the information officer further noted.
"We are hopeful of getting anti-snake venoms from next month since demand for the same was made with the centre", he said.
Rammani Ghimire, In-charge of Nuwakot Health Office, said preparation is being made to bring different medicines from the Division of Epidemiology and Disease Control of the Department of Health Service and supply them to district hospitals and other main health facilities.
