Seattle Food Festival Shooting Leaves Three Dead, Several Injured

Seattle. Three people have died and many others have been injured in a shooting incident that took place on Sunday at a food festival organized near the Space Needle in Seattle, USA.

The shooting occurred around 6 PM local time while the annual 'Bite of Seattle' food festival was underway at Seattle Center.

Mayor Katie Wilson informed that one suspect has been taken into custody following the incident. Seattle Police Assistant Chief Tyrone Davis stated that another suspect fled the scene and a search is underway for him. It is speculated that the suspects may have shot at each other.

Two people died at the scene and one person died during treatment at the hospital. Officials stated that a two-year-old child was among the injured.

Videos released on the internet show people taking shelter inside the city's famous Space Needle. After the shooting started, people hid on the floor behind pillars and racks where items were kept in the Space Needle lobby.

The Seattle Police Department has urged the public to avoid the area as the incident is under investigation.

Mayor Wilson, in a statement, thanked the police officers who reached the scene and took the suspect into custody. Although she initially stated that two suspects were apprehended, she later corrected her statement on Sunday evening, clarifying that only one person was arrested.

The fire department reported that four of the injured were taken to the hospital in stable condition, while one person refused to go to the hospital.

Representatives from Seattle and Washington State have condemned the incident as 'senseless violence'. Washington Governor Bob Ferguson expressed condolences to the families of the victims on social media.
