Iran Issues Stern Warning to Ukraine After Caspian Sea Merchant Ship Attack

Tehran. Following an attack on an Iranian merchant ship in the Caspian Sea, Iran has issued a strong warning against Ukraine. Iranian officials have clearly indicated that this incident will be retaliated against, stating that Ukraine will have to face the consequences of its actions.

According to Hadi Haq-shenas, the Governor of Iran's Gilan Province, one sailor died in the attack while three other crew members were injured.

He stated that the ship was carrying iron and was en route from the Russian port of Astrakhan to Iran's Anzali port. He described this sea route as safe and reliable for trade between Iran and Russia.

Ebrahim Azizi, the head of the Iranian Parliament's National Security Committee, warned via the social media platform X that any attack would have to be paid for. He claimed that Iran also possesses the capability to respond to any action against it by America and Israel, and now Ukraine might experience that as well.

Iran's Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi has also strongly criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. He accused Ukraine of attacking an Iranian merchant ship and taking the life of a sailor, calling it a clear violation of the United Nations Charter.

Furthermore, he claimed that this attack was influenced by Israel and warned that it would definitely be retaliated against. Meanwhile, Ukraine stated on Saturday that it had targeted ships carrying military equipment from Iran to Russia in the Caspian Sea.

President Zelensky claimed that the long-range attack in the Caspian region was highly successful. According to him, the attack targeted ships carrying military equipment from Iran to Russia, as well as a warship.

Meanwhile, Iranian officials have recently accused America of attacking some military infrastructure in the Caspian Sea region. According to the administration of Gilan Province, an airstrike occurred on the naval facilities of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
