Three British Airways Pilots Fall Ill Mid-Flight, Plane Lands Safely

New Delhi. Three pilots fell ill suddenly during a flight of British Airways plane flying from Hyderabad, India to London. The plane was safely landed at London Heathrow Airport despite the pilots falling ill.

According to the Daily Star, during the flight of about 10.5 hours, when the Boeing 777 aircraft reached an altitude of about 30,000 feet, the health of one First Officer suddenly deteriorated. As the condition became serious, he had to be given oxygen. He was in a state where he could not operate the aircraft.

After that, symptoms similar to food poisoning were seen in the remaining two pilots. It is said that despite their health not being good, they maintained composure and safely landed the plane at London Heathrow Airport.

After the plane landed safely, all three pilots were immediately taken to the hospital for medical treatment. British Airways has stated that there was no compromise on passenger safety and the entire flight was completed safely. The company has also informed that an internal investigation into the incident has been started.

According to the information received, all three pilots had stayed at the same hotel in Hyderabad before the flight. They had breakfast there and consumed drinks in the hotel lounge. Also, they drank bottled water provided by an external company.

Investigators are currently trying to find the cause of the suspected food poisoning. All three pilots have submitted flight safety reports, and medical samples have also been collected for their health examination.

According to some media reports, there were earlier complaints about the quality of cleanliness and food provided at the hotel where the airline's crew stayed. The pilots' organization BALPA has also expressed concern about the condition of this hotel time and again.

Following this incident, British Airways has stated that it will review the accommodation arrangements for its crew in Hyderabad. A company spokesperson said that the health and safety of its employees is its top priority, and the recent cases of illness are being taken seriously, with a review of the hotel and accommodation arrangements underway.
