Egg Prices Rise Due to Decreased Production and Increased Demand

Chitwan. Egg prices, which had fallen due to the impact of 'Bird Flu', have started to rise. Prices are rising due to decreased production and increased demand.

The Nepal Layers Poultry Farmers Association sets market prices based on the prices of large farms. According to the association, starting today, the price of large eggs has increased from Rs 450 to Rs 500 per crate (30 eggs). Medium eggs have increased from Rs 420 to Rs 470. Small eggs have reached Rs 415. The price has increased by Rs 50 per crate for all.

Nepal Layers Poultry Farmers Association Central President Binod Pokharel said that prices have started to rise as the demand for eggs has increased. He stated that daily egg production, which used to be around 4.5 million eggs, has decreased to around 2.8 million due to Bird Flu. In late May, eggs sold for Rs 550 per crate (30 eggs), which then dropped to Rs 450. The cost price of a crate of eggs comes to Rs 573.60. It costs Rs 19.12 per egg. He said that prices have started to rise with the increase in egg consumption.

Even with the price increase, farmers are not yet getting the cost price. President Pokharel expressed hope that farmers will soon get the cost price. Stating that farmers have suffered huge losses due to Bird Flu, he said that the state should provide relief to the affected farmers.
