US and Iran Escalate Military Tensions with Airstrikes and Counterattacks

Washington. Military tension between the United States and Iran is further escalating. The US military has stated that it carried out airstrikes on Iran for the eighth consecutive night, while Iran claims to have launched retaliatory attacks targeting US military bases in Kuwait.

According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the objective of the latest airstrikes was to weaken Iran's capability to threaten international commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and to retaliate for recent attacks on US forces.

A statement issued by CENTCOM indicated that the attacks targeted the coastal surveillance centers, air defense systems, naval military capabilities, and missile and drone storage sites of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

According to Iranian news agencies Mehr and Tasnim, the US airstrikes occurred in the Sirik region of Hormozgan province and on Qeshm Island. The airstrikes were reportedly carried out at various times targeting these areas according to local time on Sunday morning.

Tasnim reported that the US military also conducted an attack near Shadegan in Khuzestan province. Iranian media outlets claimed that there were no human casualties from these attacks and no damage to residential or commercial infrastructure.

The US military stated that the latest action was in retaliation for Iran's ballistic missile and drone attack on a US military base in Jordan on Friday. Two US soldiers were killed in that attack, and one soldier is still missing.

According to the US military, since the war began in February, 16 US soldiers have died and more than 430 have been injured. Meanwhile, Iran has also claimed to have attacked US military installations in Kuwait.

According to Tasnim news agency, the Iranian army stated that it launched missile attacks targeting the US ammunition depot at Al-Adiri camp and the Patriot radar system and air surveillance radar at Ali Al-Salem airbase.
