Paresh Rawal Claims 'OMG 2' Concept His, Cites Dispute

Mumbai. Amidst the ongoing dispute with Akshay Kumar regarding the Bollywood film 'Hera Pheri 3', veteran actor Paresh Rawal has made another sensational revelation. He has claimed that the original story and concept of the film 'Oh My God 2' (OMG 2) were his own. However, he complained that the script was later changed and he was not given any credit for it.

In an interview with Vicky Lalwani, Paresh Rawal was asked about the reason for not working in 'OMG 2'. In response, he said that he had conceived the idea with the film's director Amit Rai. He said, 'I had worked with Amit Rai on the film Road To Sangam. I am a fan of his. So I asked him if he was thinking of something new and said I have an idea, let's work together.'

Clarifying his original idea, Paresh Rawal said that he had thought of a story about a young man who was caught masturbating and became a joke when his video went viral. He said that the young man's father was a tourist guide in Khajuraho, but director Amit had the additional idea of making the father a priest of Mahakal. He mentioned that he had discussed with his sexologist friend for 5-5 hours to ensure the story did not seem vulgar anywhere.

In this story, Paresh Rawal had created an additional character of a person who rides a bike or sells goods, who would come in between and impart knowledge. For that role, he himself had approached Ajay Devgn and Salman Khan.

Explaining the reason for not approaching Akshay, he said, 'If I had gone to Akshay, it would have sent a message that the film Oh My God 2 is being made. That's why I also went to Vipul Shah and a meeting took place. But later Amit called and said something was wrong. He informed that other people were interested in this film and Akshay was going to do this film.'

• 'OMG 2' Written Unknowingly and the Pain of Not Getting Credit

Paresh Rawal stated that director Amit Rai had written 'OMG 2' on that script unknowingly or due to weakness. He said, 'We wanted to make a film on a different and new subject like OMG, this was not OMG 2. But those people took the script from Amit. I told Amit this is not a franchise, but I couldn't argue with him.'

Although Akshay Kumar himself had urged Paresh Rawal to do the film, he had refused. Paresh Rawal said, 'If this were a real sequel, I would have definitely done the film, taken good money, and also taken credit for the story. But unfortunately, I was not even given credit for the story. I am not the story writer, but I didn't even get credit that the concept of the story was Paresh's.'

He claimed that Akshay Kumar, Karan Johar, Soomen Mishra, Ashwin Varde, and Salman Khan all knew that this story was his.

After Paresh Rawal stepped down from the film, Amit Rai directed the film 'OMG 2' made on his script, and Amit Rai also received the story credit. This film, starring Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi, and Yami Gautam, was released in 2023 and became a hit.
