Heavy Rains Disrupt Major Highways Across Nepal Due to Landslides and Floods

Kathmandu. Various major highways across the country have been affected by floods and landslides due to continuous heavy rains. According to the latest data from the Nepal Police, many road sections in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Karnali provinces are completely or partially obstructed.

The Mechi Highway (Ilam, Rajduwali section) and Siddhi Charan Lokmargs (Udaypur, Katari section) in Koshi Province are completely obstructed due to landslides. An alternative route has been informed to be used on the Mechi Highway. Similarly, the Mid-Hill Highway in Bhojpur is only partially operational due to floods.

The impact of floods and landslides has been most visible in Bagmati Province. The Kanti Lokpath has been completely closed due to landslides at two locations (Bhimfedi and Hetauda–Thingan section in Makwanpur). The Arniko Highway (Bhotekoshi–Kodari) in Sindhupalchok is also completely obstructed due to landslides. Similarly, the BP Highway (Kavre section) has been closed to vehicular traffic due to the risk of potential floods.

The Saljhandi–Dhorpatan road section in Arghakhanchi under Lumbini Province is completely obstructed due to landslides. Similarly, various sections of the Kaligandaki Corridor in Gulmi are only partially operational due to landslides.

Vehicles can only operate one-way on the Kaski (Naya Pul–Ghandruk road) in Gandaki Province and the Mid-Hill Highway in Baglung due to landslides. The Jajarkot(Dolpa road section in Karnali Province is also only partially operational due to landslides.
