Mbappé and Messi level on goals for Golden Boot race

Kathmandu. The race for the Golden Boot of the FIFA World Cup 2026 has reached a very interesting stage. With a goal against Morocco in the quarter-final match, French star Kylian Mbappé has equalized the goal count with Argentine captain Lionel Messi. 

However, based on assists, Mbappé is currently ahead of Messi.
In the ongoing World Cup, both Mbappé and Messi have a goal count of 8-8. But, according to FIFA rules, if the goal count of two or more players is equal, 'assists' are counted.

 Mbappé has made 3 assists so far in this competition, while Messi has only 1 assist to his name. Based on this, Mbappé is currently in the top position in the race to win the Golden Boot.

In the list of top goal scorers in the World Cup, after Mbappé and Messi, Norway's Erling Haaland is in third place with 7 goals. Similarly, England's Harry Kane has 6 goals and France's Ousmane Dembélé has 5 goals.
Since France has already reached the semi-finals, Mbappé will get more opportunities to increase his goal and assist count.
