Man Attempts Self-Immolation Outside Passport Department

Kathmandu. A person has attempted self-immolation in front of the Department of Passports in Tripureshwor.

Speaking in the House of Representatives meeting on Thursday, Chief Whip of the Communist Party of Nepal, Yuvraj Dulal, drew the government's serious attention to the incident.

Chief Whip Dulal informed the parliament that preliminary information suggests an unidentified man, frustrated by the delay in obtaining a passport, poured petroleum products on himself and attempted self-immolation. During his address, Dulal raised serious questions about the efficiency and accountability of government service delivery.

He said, 'The government, which announced to deliver passports to the doorstep of the people, seems to have caused service recipients to take such a suicidal step due to delays in service delivery.' He questioned where the government was when a victimized service recipient was setting themselves on fire in front of the Department of Passports in Tripureshwor. He added, 'How many citizens will have to self-immolate before passports reach every home?'

Expressing sorrow over the incident, Chief Whip Dulal urged the government to be sensitive to the problems of the citizens and to improve service delivery immediately.
