Communist Party MP Pun Stresses Transparency in Parliamentary Hearings

Kathmandu. Communist Party of Nepal MP Varshaman Pun has stated that the parliamentary hearing process should be made transparent and effective. Speaking at a meeting of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee held on Thursday to discuss the hearing of the Chief Election Commissioner and Commissioners, he said that the upcoming hearing should be conducted in a procedural manner. He said that the process, transparency, and quality of discussion are more important than the time for submitting complaints for the hearing. He emphasized the need to create an environment where citizens can clearly understand the qualifications, capabilities, action plans, and commitments of the proposed officials. He stated that commitments made publicly will make the concerned officials more responsible in the future. He said, 'Let's organize the upcoming hearings and make them effective. Let's not rush, but the hearing should be conducted in a procedural and transparent manner. As I have said before, we are hearing a decision made by a specific leadership, including the Prime Minister, the leader of the main opposition party, and the heads of three state organs. This is also a new practice for Nepal, and this practice has been carried out well a couple of times.' He cited examples of parliamentary hearings in countries like America and said that Nepal should also learn from the practice where the capabilities and commitments of qualified candidates are tested publicly.
