Monsoon System Fully Expands Across Nepal

Kathmandu. Currently, there is a strong influence of monsoon winds across Nepal. 

According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the monsoon winds have reached the western border of the country, and today monsoon has expanded to the remaining parts of Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, as well as all parts of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces. With this, this year's monsoon system has fully spread across the country.

In Nepal, monsoon usually enters from the eastern parts of the country on June 13 and spreads across the country within a week. However, this year the monsoon entered Nepal from the eastern parts on Ashad 5 (June 19), 6 days later than the average date.

Initially, the monsoon that spread to some parts of Koshi Province, by Ashad 8 (June 22), had spread to the entire remaining parts of Koshi, Madhesh Province, Bagmati Province, some parts of Gandaki Province, and the eastern parts of Lumbini Province. This year, it took a total of 12 days for the monsoon to spread across the country.

Looking at the current weather conditions, most of Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces are cloudy, while Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces are generally cloudy. Currently, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is occurring in a few places in Bagmati, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, and in one or two places in Koshi Province.

According to the forecast for the entire day today, Wednesday, it will be fully cloudy across the country. Rain and snowfall are estimated in various geographical regions of the country. According to the division, there is a possibility of moderate rain and snowfall with thunderstorms in some places in the Himalayan regions of the country. Similarly, there is a possibility of moderate rain and snowfall with thunderstorms in many places in the hilly regions, and moderate rain with thunderstorms in some places in the Terai region. Today, there is a possibility of heavy rainfall in one or two places in the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Karnali provinces in particular.

The Meteorological Forecasting Division has stated that it is continuously monitoring the weather conditions and will update the weather information regularly accordingly. The division has also requested everyone to take necessary precautions by obtaining updated weather information, keeping in mind this change in weather and the risk of rain.
