Home Minister Sudhan Gurung Conducts Surprise Inspection of Bara and Parsa Border Crossings

Kathmandu. Home Minister Sudhan Gurung has conducted surprise inspections of the border crossings in Bara and Parsa. Security agencies were unaware of where Home Minister Gurung, who reached Bara and Parsa in the Madhesh region on Friday evening, stayed overnight.

Upon receiving information that the Home Minister would return to Kathmandu via Simra on Saturday, the Chief District Officers and security chiefs of Bara and Parsa reached the airport. An official working in Bara said, 'He had come for an informal inspection; we met with the CDO and security chiefs at Simra Airport.'

In Simra, Minister Gurung instructed the home administration officials to control all kinds of smuggling from the border. According to security sources, Home Minister Gurung inspected the border areas of Janaki Tola and Dry Port in Jagannathpur Rural Municipality of Parsa and the Matiyarwa border crossing in Kalaiya Sub-Metropolitan City-10 of Bara on Saturday.

A video of Gurung interacting with locals has surfaced on social media. In the video, locals told him, '100 bicycles come at night, and all are let through.'

The Home Minister asked the locals, 'Do they come one by one or in small groups? Small groups, not one by one? Is it still happening?'

The Home Minister, wearing a mask and glasses, reached the border and asked the locals, 'Is smuggling still happening?' The locals urged the minister, saying that smuggling has not stopped even these days, 'It is still happening, just sit here and watch towards Samtir.'

Locals complain that the practice of bringing goods on bicycles by evading customs has not stopped. The minister instructed his colleagues, 'You guys go and see on bikes.'

The Home Minister interacted with locals about who monitors the CCTV installed at the border crossings. Locals said that the CCTV is monitored by the Armed Police Force's BOP, and border activities are recorded on CCTV.

Minister Gurung returned to Kathmandu via Simra Airport at 5 PM on Saturday.
