MP Indira Rana Magar Demands Legal Amendment to Prevent Intentional Killing of Accident Victims

Kathmandu. Rastriya Swatantra Party's House of Representatives member Indira Rana Magar has demanded that the government immediately amend the law to stop the growing trend of intentionally 'backing' vehicles to kill accident victims. Speaking in the emergency time of the parliament on Sunday, MP Rana Magar expressed strong outrage over the recent heartbreaking incident in Birtamore, Jhapa.

Rana Magar informed the parliament about the incident where a tipper truck hit 10-year-old girl Anukriti Chapagain at Adhuwa Khola bridge in Birtamod Municipality 3, Jhapa. She stated that after the tipper initially hit and injured the girl, the driver intentionally 'backed' the vehicle and killed the girl. 'Such incidents are repeatedly happening, and cases are being settled under the guise of accidents. This is an extremely sad and shameful matter,' she said.

She requested the Government of Nepal to immediately proceed with amendments to which act and rules to discourage such heinous acts. Rana urged the government to give the strictest punishment to the criminals involved in the incident and to end such practices.

MP Rana Magar claimed that gangs are active in intimidating victim families, engaging in hooliganism, and protecting criminals in the name of various 'welfare funds' or other groups. 'The Home Ministry must immediately take action against the home group that threatens the victim's family and engages in hooliganism,' she said.
