US Secretary of State Marco Rubio Warns of Strait of Hormuz Blockade Spreading

Manama. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has warned that any kind of fee or obstruction on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz could spread to other international waterways.

 Speaking at the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) meeting in Bahrain, Rubio clarified that international waterways do not belong to any single country.

He said, 'International waterways are not the private property of any nation. If any country starts charging fees to ships simply because it is near its territory, this practice could spread like an epidemic worldwide.' 

According to Rubio, if such a practice is accepted, it could create great disorder in the world trade system and ultimately pose a risk of complete chaos in international maritime routes.
