Two Workers Die in Thailand Railway Tunnel Construction Accident

Thailand. In northern Thailand, two workers died and at least two were seriously injured when heavy equipment fell inside an under-construction railway tunnel. According to local media, the accident occurred on Saturday in the three-point-four-kilometer-long Doi Luang tunnel in Chiang Rai province.

The tunnel is under construction as part of the Den Chai–Chiang Rai–Chiang Khong railway project. It is reported that two workers died on the spot and two others were seriously injured when heavy equipment fell while installing a waterproof structure inside the tunnel. The injured have been admitted to a local hospital for treatment.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the workers were engaged in waterproofing installation work inside the tunnel. Following the accident, Thailand's State Railway has suspended construction work at the site for two days.

Experts and relevant bodies have been mobilized to inspect the condition of the structure and determine the cause of the accident.
