Weather Forecast: Extreme Heat in Terai, Rain in Hills

Kathmandu. The weather of the major cities of the country is divided into two poles today. Western and central cities of Terai will be affected by extreme heat, while rain with thunderstorms and lightning is forecast for hilly and eastern cities.

Especially the residents of western and central Terai will have to face extreme heat today. According to the weather forecast, Nepalgunj and Bhairahawa will be the hottest cities in the country today, with the maximum temperature expected to reach 39 to 41 degrees Celsius. Along with these two cities, a 'heatwave' will blow in Dhangadhi (38-40 degrees Celsius) this afternoon.

Similarly, there is no possibility of rain in Birendranagar, Ghorahi, Simara and Janakpur today. The maximum temperature in these cities will be between 35 to 38 degrees Celsius, making it a hot day.

On the other hand, while the heat is increasing in Terai, there is a possibility of rain in the hilly and eastern parts of the country. Moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning is forecast for Pokhara, Okhaldhunga, Dhankuta, Biratnagar and Taplejung this afternoon. Among these, Dhankuta, Biratnagar and Taplejung have the highest probability of rain, i.e., 60 percent.

Similarly, there is a possibility of light rain with thunderstorms and lightning in the federal capital Kathmandu, Dadeldhura, Dipayal, Jumla, Jomsom, Dharan and Jiri. The maximum temperature in Kathmandu will be between 29 to 31 degrees Celsius today, with a 40 percent chance of rain. The lowest maximum temperature today will be in Jomsom, between 23 to 25 degrees Celsius.

The weather tonight will change somewhat according to the region. In Dhangadhi, Birendranagar, Nepalgunj, Ghorahi and Bhairahawa, where there was extreme heat and heatwave during the day, there will be no rain at night and the sky will be mostly clear. However, in Simara and Janakpur, which experienced a hot day, the weather is expected to change at night with light rain with thunderstorms and lightning.

Similarly, in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Okhaldhunga, Dhankuta, Biratnagar, Dharan, Jiri and Taplejung, where it rained during the day, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms will continue at night. In Dadeldhura, Dipayal, Jumla and Jomsom, there will be no rain at night and the sky will be partly cloudy. Jumla will be the coldest tonight, with the minimum temperature expected to drop to 12 to 14 degrees Celsius.
