Landslide Blocks Lamjung-Manang Road

Lamjung. The Lamjung-Manang connecting road Besisahar-Chame road has been obstructed due to landslide. The District Police Office Lamjung has stated that the road has been obstructed by a landslide that occurred this morning in Kharakhare cliff of Besisahar Municipality-6 in Lamjung due to rain that has been falling since Thursday evening. 

DSP Jitendra Kumar Basnet of the office said, “When the water falls heavily, there is a possibility of landslides in risky areas. Stones and soil have fallen from above the road, obstructing the road.” He said that dozens of vehicles going to the Himalayan district Manang and coming from the district to Besisahar and various places have been stranded due to the obstruction of the road. 

Landslides occurring repeatedly every year in this area make travel risky and problematic. DSP Basnet said that due to the lack of prevention and control of a large landslide that occurred here five to seven years ago, landslides have been recurring.  The problem is arising due to the delay in construction even though the work has been advanced by the federal government for Rs 19 crore 48 lakh for landslide prevention. 

The landslide, which was supposed to be completed in 2080 BS, has not been completed yet, so the landslide has not been prevented. Similarly, the Besisahar-Ghalegaun road has also been obstructed by a landslide. DSP Basnet informed that the road has been obstructed by a landslide in Puma cliff of Besisahar-6 under this road.
