Banke Police Arrest 77 Fugitive Defendants in One Month

Nepalgunj. Police have arrested 77 fugitive defendants in Banke in a period of one month. Police Deputy Superintendent of District Police Office, Banke, Pratiitsingh Rathour informed that 77 defendants who were absconding after being sentenced to imprisonment and financial penalties by the court were presented in court in the month of Jestha during search and investigation.

According to him, a fine of Rs 1 crore 59 lakh 23 thousand 274 is to be recovered from the arrested fugitive defendants.

Rathour stated that 14 years and one month and three days of imprisonment are to be served by the defendants. He said that the absconding individuals who have been hiding for a long time, despite being sentenced by the court, have been arrested and brought into the legal framework in accordance with the government's policy to apprehend them and present them to the court.

The District Police Office stated that as part of the ongoing campaign to arrest fugitives in the district for several years, about 25 to 80 fugitives are arrested every month.

Those who have been sentenced and fined by the court have not yet respected the court's decision by appearing before the court themselves, and therefore, they are being searched for.

It is said that a special team has been formed to search for fugitive defendants and their search is being conducted regularly. Out of a total of 159 cases registered in the month of Jestha, 14 were heinous crimes, 52 were serious crimes, and the rest were minor crimes.

Among these, 13 cases related to women and children, 14 related to the elderly, and 34 related to economic offenses were registered.
