China to Host Global AI Conference and Governance Meeting in Shanghai

Beijing. Chinese officials said on Wednesday that preparations are underway to host the World Artificial Intelligence (AI) Conference 2026 and a high-level meeting on Global AI Governance in Shanghai in July.

“China is eager to take this conference as an opportunity to further strengthen international cooperation on AI with all parties,” Deputy Director of the National Development and Reform Commission, Zhou Haibing, said at a press conference.

Stating that AI will have a significant impact on the future of humanity, Zhou said that this is a common issue faced by all countries. It is reported that China has made significant contributions to global development in the AI era with modern Chinese solutions, supporting the principles of multilateralism, openness, and inclusivity.

He stated that China will coordinate development and security efforts, actively practice multilateralism, and support the principle of developing people-centered AI.
