Speaker DP Aryal and Opposition Leaders Discuss Parliament Stalemate

Kathmandu. To end the parliamentary deadlock, Speaker DP Aryal and opposition party leaders have gathered for a discussion. The discussion is taking place in the Speaker's office at Singh Durbar, informed Chief Whip of CPN-UML Ain Mahar. Mahar told Ratopati, 'We are currently in discussion with the opposition parties and the Speaker.' 'An agreement could not be reached in the discussion with the Rastriya Swatantra Party Chairman.' Earlier, Rastriya Swatantra Party Chairman Ravi Lamichhane and opposition party leaders held discussions for more than 2 hours to end the deadlock. In the discussion with Lamichhane, opposition party leaders stated that they are ready to remove the parliamentary obstruction if the Foreign Minister provides a written response to the statement made by Prime Minister Balendra (Balen) Shah regarding the border. However, RSP Chairman Lamichhane said that the Foreign Minister would respond in his own way rather than on behalf of the Prime Minister. The opposition parties have not agreed to that. Due to this, the meeting of the House of Representatives called for 11 AM today was postponed until 2 PM by posting a notice without convening. The 2 PM meeting had not started by the time this news was prepared.
