Destructive Storm Damages Homes and Infrastructure in Nawalpur

Nawalpur. A destructive storm with rain that occurred on Tuesday evening in Binayi Triveni Rural Municipality of East Nawalparasi (Nawalpur) has caused extensive damage. 

The storm blew off the roofs of more than 20 houses in various villages falling under Ward No. 1 of the rural municipality, causing significant damage. 

The storm caused the most damage in Baguan village of Ward No. 1. According to local resident Buddharaj Bishwakarma, the storm blew off the tin and thatch roofs of 15 houses in Baguan alone, causing them to fall to the ground. 

The torrential rain that followed immediately after the roofs were blown off completely soaked stored grains, food items, and bedding and clothing. With all the food and clothes destroyed, the affected families are now facing a major problem in arranging their morning meals and finding shelter. 

Similarly, the storm also knocked down and completely damaged the drinking water tank of the local basic school in Baguan. After the tank collapsed, there has been a severe shortage of drinking water in the school and surrounding areas. Due to damage to electric poles and wires caused by the storm, electricity has been disrupted in the area since yesterday evening. 

According to Deepak Poudel, Ward Chairman of Ward No. 1 of Binayi Triveni Rural Municipality, details of damage to roofs of 15 houses in Baguan, 5 houses in Siseni village, and some other places have been received. The ward office is currently collecting more detailed information about the damage in the affected areas with the help of the police and local representatives, and efforts are being made to provide immediate relief to the victims.
