Rastriya Swatantra Party Holds District Conventions in 28 Districts

Kathmandu. The ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is holding its first convention in 28 districts today.

A convention is going to be held in four districts of Koshi Province, four of Madhesh, two of Bagmati, four of Gandaki, China of Lumbini, six of Karnali, and five districts of Sudurpaschim, informed Bhuwan KC, chief of the central election commission.

According to the commission, conventions will be held in Udayapur, Solukhumbu, Khotang, Ilam, Siraha, Dhanusha, Parsa, Sarlahi, Chitwan, Dolakha, Tanahun, Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East), Gorkha, Lamjung, Arghakhanchi, Rupandehi, Pyuthan, Surkhet, Jajarkot, Dailekh, Rukum (West), Mugu, Jumla, Achham, Doti, Kailali, Kanchanpur, and Bajura.

According to Commission Chief KC, a three-member election committee has been deployed in each district to conduct the district convention election process impartially. RSP has already completed conventions in 38 districts on Saturday. According to the commission, conventions were completed on Saturday in Jhapa, Morang, Tehrathum, Taplejung, Bhojpur, Sankhuwasabha, Okhaldhunga, Sunsari, Mahottari, Rautahat, Dolakha, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Nuwakot, Dhading, Makwanpur, Kavrepalanchok, Sindhupalchok, and Sindhuli.

Similarly, conventions have also been held and new leadership selected in Syangja, Kaski, Parbat, Baglung, Myagdi, Gulmi, Nawalparasi, Palpa, Kapilvastu, Dang, Banke, Bardia, Rolpa, Kalikot, Salyan, Baitadi, Bajhang, and Darchula.

The commission stated that the district conventions are an important step in transforming the party from an interim structure to a fully legal and people-approved structure, and has requested all stakeholders to conduct the internal democratic practice in a clean, impartial, and peaceful manner.

The party has stated that the Bara district convention will be held on Jestha 26 due to special organizational circumstances. RSP plans to complete conventions in 67 out of 77 districts before the first national convention. Conventions in the remaining 10 districts will be held after the national convention.

The province conventions of the party will commence from Jestha 26. Five-member provincial election committees have been formed in all seven provinces to conduct the provincial conventions.

RSP's first national convention is scheduled to be held in Chitwan from Asar 7 to 9.
