Tehathum Market Inspected on World No Tobacco Day

Tehathum. On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day, the District Administration Office conducted an inspection in the Tehathum market.

The inspection team led by Chief District Officer Vandana Rai interacted with businessmen and provided information about the standards related to the sale and distribution of tobacco products and their health effects.

Myanglung Municipality Health Assistant Indra Prasad Pokharel had informed that tobacco products contain more than seven thousand chemicals, about 250 harmful and more than 70 cancer-causing elements.

Businessmen have been instructed to compulsorily display warning boards, not to sell cigarettes and tobacco to those under 18 years of age and pregnant women, and not to sell tobacco products within 100 meters of educational and health institutions. Also, the implementation of prohibition of smoking in public places and payment of excise duty were monitored.

Officials from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, District Health Office, all three security agencies, and the Federation of Journalists participated in the joint inspection team.
