Barcelona Signs England Winger Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United

Barcelona. Spanish football club Barcelona has signed England winger Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United on a five-year contract. The club announced this on Friday.

25-year-old Gordon scored 17 goals in all competitions this season, including 10 goals in 12 Champions League games. While at Newcastle, he scored 39 goals and provided 28 assists in 152 games, helping the club win the League Cup last year.

Barcelona has described him as a player with 'high dribbling ability and was Newcastle's top scorer last season'. The amount Barcelona spent on him has not been disclosed, but according to British media, the transfer fee is around 80 million euros plus additional bonuses.

During his unveiling at Barcelona, Gordon surprised everyone by answering journalists' questions in Spanish. He said he had dreamed of playing for Barcelona since childhood and that was why he learned Spanish.

'When Barcelona showed interest, there was no question, this is my childhood dream,' he said. 'I dreamed of playing here since I was young, that's why I started learning Spanish.'

He is also a member of the England national team and is included in the upcoming World Cup squad. Barcelona mentioned that Gordon performed well in the three games he played against the club last season, calling him a strategically important signing.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United finished 12th in the Premier League and failed to qualify for European competition. Club coach Eddie Howe had hinted some time ago that Gordon might leave the club.

Another England player, Marcus Rashford, has also recently joined Barcelona on loan, helping the club defend their La Liga title.

Spanish media have reported that Barcelona is planning to sign more forward players in the upcoming 'transfer window'.
