6 Laborers Die in Under-Construction Bridge Collapse in Hamirpur, India

New Delhi. Six laborers died when an under-construction bridge collapsed in Hamirpur district of India's Uttar Pradesh state on Thursday night. Three other laborers buried under the debris were rescued and sent to the hospital.

According to the local administration, the structure suddenly collapsed while the bridge construction work was underway. The laborers working there at that time were buried under the debris of the bridge. Two of the deceased were from Hamirpur and four from Banda district.

Regarding the question of whether the accident was caused by a storm that came at night, Additional Superintendent of Police Arvind Kumar Verma said that an investigation is underway at the scene and the real cause will be revealed only after the investigation. 

He also said that action will be taken if those found guilty are identified. According to officials, relief and rescue operations were conducted throughout the night. Laborers were pulled out by removing the debris with the help of a JCB machine. The injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals.

Questions have started arising about the quality and safety standards of bridge construction after the accident. Officials from the District Administration and Public Works Department have reached the spot. Officials said that an investigation into the incident has already been ordered. 

The investigation is said to focus on whether the accident was solely due to bad weather or if there was negligence in the construction work as well. Storms, rain, and lightning occurred in various parts of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday night. The Meteorological Department had already issued a warning of bad weather.
