President Paudel Emphasizes Republic Guarantees Political Rights, Calls for Unity in Nation Building

Kathmandu. President Ram Chandra Paudel has stated that the republic has guaranteed us complete political rights and it is a great inspiration and responsibility for nation building. President Paudel expressed this view while addressing the ceremony organized at Tundikhel Military Parade Ground on Friday on the occasion of the 19th Republic Day 2083.  

“The republic has guaranteed us complete political rights, it has also given us the opportunity to move forward united for a prosperous future, it has connected the countrymen and inspired the resolve to build a common nation, because it has given us ownership of our caste, language, religion, community, civilization and land, therefore it is a great inspiration and responsibility for nation building”, he said.   

He said that everyone must work unitedly with a change in political integrity, values and conduct to protect the dignity of the republic and make it more prosperous.  President Paudel said, “It has its own values and ethical boundaries, without forgetting them we cannot fulfill the responsibility of history, may today inspire us to move forward in the highest and meaningful practice of federal democratic republic with social justice, development and prosperity, and to bind politics, state and governance within the limits of ethics, integrity and values.”

He mentioned that the House of Representatives election held to find a way out of the difficult situation in the country was successfully completed and a government with a strong mandate has been formed, and it has decided to move forward with good governance, improvement in public service delivery, economic recovery, zero tolerance against corruption and social progress as its basic guidance for prosperity as per the wishes of the people. He also expressed confidence that the government's decision to implement structural and legal reforms for a borderless economy and tariff-free trade by fully implementing the one hundred agendas of governance reform will be implemented and create hope among the people.   

“We all must understand that changes in the political system and governance structure alone will not fulfill the expectations of the era, for this, it is also necessary to bring about changes in our state power's character, conduct, political integrity and values, otherwise, practice will not confirm political change”, President Paudel said.   

He said that our biggest enemy today is none other than delay, irregularity and mismanagement. He emphasized that our concern should be that these mismanagement do not disappoint the citizens who dream of a democratic republic.   

“Until the lamp of hope burns in the life of every citizen, the goal of the federal democratic republic that we have exchanged with blood and sweat will not be fulfilled”, President Paudel said.  

He said that today citizens are seeking prosperity along with good governance, and for this, it is necessary to make the best use of our resources. “Only then can we connect the governance system with the lives of the citizens through economic development and prosperity, this is our historical responsibility for today, in this sense, today reminds us of our historical duty, I hope we will not forget this duty”, President Paudel said.   

He expressed the view that political achievements alone are not enough to connect change with the lives of citizens, and that we need to change our governance character and the character of politics, parties and leaders. “I believe that there should be no delay in making our politics, our governance style, political parties and representative institutions fully democratic, impartial, competitive, just and effective to achieve the excellence of the republic”, he said.   

President Paudel said that we must now strive with all dedication and humility to strengthen the achievements we have gained.  

“Our political parties, our government, our leadership must be creative, humble and accountable to the people, and possess character and conduct, we must make our governance structures and state organs dynamic and result-oriented, we must guarantee good governance”, he said.   

Mentioning that the federal democratic republic stipulated by our constitution aims for justice for the voiceless and income for the poor, including the political, economic, social, religious and cultural freedom of citizens, President Paudel expressed the view that although various types of rights are mentioned, the ultimate goal of the federal democratic republic is to provide these rights to the voiceless people to enjoy unhindered freedom and improve their standard of living.   

“We all know that the democratic republic is the best political system in the world, we have made it even more excellent by enriching it with the substantive principles of socialism based on federalism, inclusivity, social justice and democracy through the constitution made by the people themselves, therefore there is no better system in the world”, President Paudel said.  

President Paudel said that local and provincial governments are fulfilling their responsibilities as per the constitution, and in this governance system, sovereignty is being exercised from the doorstep of the people. “A liberal, advanced democratic practice is being carried out where public grievances can be addressed through the governance structure, this strengthens the roots of democracy, the belief that the ultimate owner in a democracy is the people has been established”, President Paudel said.
