Weather Forecast: Heatwaves in Tarai, Rain in Hills

Kathmandu. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has predicted seasonal variations in various parts of the country for Wednesday. The Terai plains of Sudurpashchim and Lumbini provinces will experience extreme heat, while hilly and eastern regions are projected to have thunderstorms and lightning with rain.

According to the forecast, the temperatures in Dhangadhi and Nepalgunj will be the highest in the country this afternoon. Both cities are expected to reach a maximum temperature of 39 to 41 degrees Celsius, with a heatwave. Similarly, Dipayal, Birendranagar, Ghorahi, and Bhairahawa will also experience a 'hot day' this afternoon.

The maximum temperature in Bhairahawa is estimated to be between 37 to 39 degrees Celsius, in Dipayal and Birendranagar between 36 to 38 degrees, and in Ghorahi between 35 to 37 degrees Celsius. There is a zero percent chance of rain in these extremely hot areas today.

On the other hand, cities like Pokhara and Kathmandu are expected to receive rain. There is a 60 percent chance of moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning in Pokhara and Taplejung this afternoon. Moderate rain with a 40 percent chance is forecast for Kathmandu, Okhaldhunga, and Dhankuta. Similarly, Biratnagar, Dharan, and Jiri may experience light rain with thunderstorms this afternoon. Although there is no chance of rain in Dadeldhura, Jumla, Simara, Jomsom, and Janakpur, the weather will be partly cloudy.

The weather tonight will be mixed, similar to the day. Pokhara will continue to experience moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning with a 60 percent chance tonight, while Kathmandu, Taplejung, and Simara will have rain with a 40 percent chance. Although Simara and Janakpur had only partial clouds during the day, there is a chance of rain tonight. There is a 20 percent chance of light rain in the Himalayan districts like Jumla and Jomsom tonight.

Meanwhile, Dhangadhi and Nepalgunj, which experienced extreme heat during the day, will have mainly clear weather tonight. However, with the minimum temperature in these cities expected to be between 26 to 28 degrees Celsius, significant relief from the heat is not anticipated immediately.
