Major Highways Blocked Across Nepal Due to Rain, Landslides

Kathmandu. Continuous rain, floods, and landslides have blocked major highways in various provinces of the country. According to the details released by the Nepal Police, as of Wednesday morning, transportation services have been fully or partially affected on various road sections in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Karnali provinces.

In Koshi Province, the road network has suffered significant damage due to landslides and floods. A landslide in Oyam Bazaar and Rijalbhir in Yangwarak Rural Municipality Ward No. 3 of Panchthar District on Jestha 8 has completely obstructed the Mid-Hilly Highway. Another section of the Mid-Hilly Highway has also been completely shut down due to floods in Dobhan of the same rural municipality's Ward No. 2 on Jestha 8. Similarly, a landslide in Simbung of Bhotkhola Rural Municipality Ward No. 4 in Sankhuwasabha District on Jestha 11 has completely blocked the Koshi Highway.

In Bagmati Province, vehicular movement has been halted considering potential risks. All vehicles plying the Khurkot-Nepalethok-Katuñjebensi route in Kavrepalanchok District have been prohibited from operating on the BP Highway section since Jestha 22 due to the threat of potential floods.

In Gandaki Province, transportation is operating one-way in some places. The Beni-Jomsom road section is only open one-way due to landslides in Jalathale of Annapurna Rural Municipality Ward No. 3 in Myagdi District on Jestha 16 and in Tallo Baisari of रघु Ganga Rural Municipality Ward No. 3 on Jestha 7. A new landslide in Uppallo Baisari of रघु Ganga Rural Municipality Ward No. 1 on the morning of Jestha 13 has also kept the road operating only one-way.

Road blockades persist in Humla, a remote Himalayan district in Karnali Province. Vehicular movement has been stopped on the Hilsa-Simkot road section in Namkha Rural Municipality Ward No. 2 of Humla due to the risk of potential landslides on Jestha 29.

Similarly, a landslide in Khachcha of Sarkegad Rural Municipality Ward No. 1 in Humla on Jestha 13 has completely blocked the Karnali Corridor. The Department of Roads and security agencies are making efforts to clear the blocked roads.
