Nepal Electricity Authority to Construct 132 KV Underground Transmission Line in Central Kathmandu

Kathmandu. Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) is going to construct a 132 KV capacity underground transmission line in the central part of Kathmandu. The transmission line is being constructed with the aim of providing electricity easily and smoothly within the ring road. It is said that the underground transmission line is being constructed with the aim of increasing electricity consumption and enhancing the beauty of the city. As per the proposal, the transmission line will be connected from Balaju Maharajgunj-Rajdarbar-Ratnapark to Singha Durbar. The length of the transmission line to be connected from Balaju Substation to Singha Durbar will be 11.92 kilometers. The double circuit transmission line will be completed within the next three years. Similarly, a 132/11 KV capacity substation will be constructed in Maharajgunj and a 132/11 KV capacity substation in Rajdarbar. Similarly, a 132/11 KV substation in Ratnapark and a 132/66/11 KV capacity substation in Singha Durbar will also be constructed. The NEA has only applied for permission to construct the transmission line and substation to the Department of Electricity Development. The capacity of the transmission line will be equal to 132 KV. Electricity up to 350 megawatts will flow through the underground double circuit transmission line. 21 'joint pits' will be constructed in the transmission line. Its maximum distance will be up to 500 meters. A total of 1.62 hectares of land will be required for the construction of the project. While constructing and operating the transmission line, it must be constructed in such a way that it does not have a significant adverse impact on the environment due to soil erosion, floods, air pollution, etc., as per Section 24 of the Electricity Act, 2049. The department has requested suggestions and advice regarding the project through a public notice. The NEA has previously constructed an underground transmission line in the Ratnapark-Maharajgunj area. Underground transmission lines are under construction in various areas of Kathmandu and Lalitpur. Construction of underground transmission lines in Pokhara and Bharatpur is also in the final stage. The expected goal has not been achieved due to the delay in the completion of the underground transmission line construction, which was started with the objective of enhancing urban beauty and providing electricity smoothly.
