Zelensky Claims Russia Used 'Oresnik' Hypersonic Missile in Kyiv Attack

Kyiv. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has claimed that Russia used a powerful hypersonic 'Oresnik' ballistic missile during a mass attack in the Kyiv region.

This is said to be the third time such a missile, capable of carrying either nuclear or conventional weapons, has been used in Ukraine. According to President Zelensky, the missile targeted the city of Bila Tserkva in the Kyiv region, although the actual target was not immediately clear.

Previously, Russia is said to have used the multi-warhead Oresnik missile for the first time in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro in November 2024, and for the second time in the western Lviv region in January.

According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the name 'Oresnik' is related to the hazelnut tree in Russian. He has claimed that the missile is capable of traveling at speeds of about 10 times the speed of sound, or Mach 10, and can destroy underground bunkers three to four stories deep or even deeper.
