Nepal and USA Clash in Crucial Cricket World Cup Qualifier Match

Kathmandu. In a journey towards the 2027 One Day World Cup qualifiers, Nepal and America are set to clash today in Kirtipur in a significant match of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2. The match, which was scheduled to start at 9:30 AM according to Nepali time, has not yet had a toss due to the ground not drying because of bad weather. 

This match, to be held at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, is a golden opportunity for both teams to add important points. This match holds great significance in the League 2 points table. At the end of this competition, the top four teams will secure a direct spot in the 2027 ODI World Cup qualifiers, while the remaining teams will be pushed into a difficult playoff route.

In the ongoing league, both teams are in different positions and forms. America has made a strong hold on the top position in the points table by winning 18 matches so far, showing its best performance in this competition. On the other hand, although Nepal struggled in the initial matches outside its home ground, it has made a spectacular comeback through the ongoing triangular series in Kirtipur and has climbed to the fifth position in the points table. 

Both teams are coming into this match after securing identical 6-wicket wins against Scotland in their previous games. In the match held on May 20, America bundled out Scotland for 169 runs with the help of Saurabh Netravalkar's deadly bowling (3/19) and chased the target in 28 overs with equal contributions of 37 runs from Smit Patel and Shayan Jahangir. 

In the match held on May 18, Nepal had restricted Scotland to 194 runs with the help of 4 wickets from spinner Lalit Rajbanshi and 3 wickets from Sandeep Lamichhane. With captain Rohit Paudel's captain's innings of an unbeaten 74 runs, Nepal completed the target in 39 overs.

In this match, left-arm fast bowler Saurabh Netravalkar will be a key weapon for America, who has become the third highest wicket-taker in the competition with 40 wickets. For Nepal, opener Kushal Bhurtel is the most dangerous player. 

In the match held on May 16, when these two teams met, Bhurtel played a century innings of an unbeaten 120 runs in 118 balls with the help of 13 fours and 4 sixes. In that match, after Dipendra Singh Airee took 4 wickets, Nepal achieved an easy 9-wicket victory in 36.4 overs against America, who were bundled out for 195, with the help of a 145-run opening partnership between Kushal Bhurtel and Asif Sheikh (58 runs).

Historically, the competition between these two teams has been very exciting and tough. Out of the 12 One Day matches played so far, America has taken a slight lead by winning 6 matches, while Nepal has won 5 matches and one match has ended in a draw. 

Nepal, with the strong support of the home crowd, is aiming to level the distance by winning today's match, while America wants to strengthen its top position further by taking revenge for the previous loss.
