Putin Claims Unprecedented High Level of China-Russia Relations, Analysts Note Caution

Beijing. Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that the relationship between China and Russia has reached an unprecedentedly high level. During the meeting in Beijing, Putin said that the relationship with Chinese President Xi Jinping has reached a very strong and historic stage. 

However, according to analysts, such strong statements often come only from the Russian side. Similar vocabulary was used during Putin's visits to China in June and September last year.

While it is true that trade between the two countries has reached a historic high, the Chinese leadership appears to be more cautious in its public statements.

Xi Jinping often addresses Putin as 'old friend' and has described the relationship between the two countries as 'unwavering'. However, it is analyzed that China has adopted a strategy of not using overly emotional or aggressive words regarding the relationship. Xi Jinping often speaks in pre-determined and cautious language.

According to analysts, Russia needs China much more now. Due to Western sanctions, the Ukraine war, and economic pressure, Russia has become dependent on China for trade, energy exports, and diplomatic support. 

For Russia, China is now the main economic partner and energy buyer. China is benefiting by buying energy from Russia at a low price and engaging in strategic cooperation.
