Islamabad Court Sentences Umar Hayat to Death for Murder of Social Media Influencer Sana Yusuf

Islamabad. A court in Islamabad has sentenced Umar Hayat, the accused in the murder case of 17-year-old social media influencer Sana Yusuf, to death. 

On Tuesday, while delivering its verdict in the murder case, the District and Sessions Court of Islamabad also ordered Umar Hayat to pay Rs 2 million in compensation to the family. In addition, Umar Hayat has been sentenced to a total of 21 years in jail for several charges including the crime of theft in Sana Yusuf's house.

Hayat was arrested within a few hours of Sana's murder. A legal battle of about one year had been going on against him. Following the incident, citizens across Pakistan had launched widespread protests and social media campaigns demanding justice. 

This verdict is yet to be approved by the Islamabad High Court. After the verdict was made public, many Pakistanis reacted on social media X, saying that Sana has finally received justice.
