Joint Monitoring Team Fines Three Businesses in Birgunj for Violating Consumer Protection Act

Parsa. Under the Price Transparency Week, the joint monitoring team of the District Monitoring Committee has conducted an unexpected monitoring and inspection of hotels and canteens operating in various areas of Birgunj Metropolitan City.

During the monitoring on Friday, three businessmen were fined for not operating in accordance with the Consumer Protection Act, 2075 BS and the Consumer Protection Rules, 2076 BS.

Ashutosh Kushwaha, acting chief of the Office of Commerce, Supply and Consumer Protection, Birgunj, informed that Deepak Shah, operator of Tarai Canteen operating in Birgunj Metropolitan City-11, was fined Rs 50,000 under Section 39 (1) (d) of the Act for violating Section 15 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2075 BS and committing an offense under Section 38 (Ta).

Similarly, Shekhar Magar, operator of Jyoti Magar Hotel operating in Birgunj Metropolitan City-13, was fined Rs 20,000 under Section 39 (1) (Ka) for violating Section 15 of the Act and committing an offense under Section 38 (Gha).

Urmila Mahato, operator of Chaudhary Hotel, operating in the same ward, was also fined Rs 5,000 under Section 39 (1) (Ka) for violating Section 15 of the Act and committing an offense under Section 38 (Gha), the committee stated.

During the monitoring, it was observed that some improvements were needed in Anu Devi's business operating in Birgunj-13, and general instructions were given for necessary improvements. The District Monitoring Committee has stated that monitoring will be continued to protect consumer interests and make the market organized.
