India's NIA Files Chargesheet Against 10 in 2025 Delhi Car Bombing

New Delhi. India's National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed formal charges against 10 people in connection with the fatal car bomb blast in Delhi in 2025. At least 11 people were killed in the explosion near the historic Red Fort. The investigation agency has claimed that the accused are linked to an Al-Qaeda-inspired group.

Last year on November 10, an explosion occurred near a busy metro station in Delhi's old area. The explosion in the capital's sensitive and tourist area had increased security concerns across the country.

According to the NIA, one of the 10 people allegedly involved in the incident, a medical doctor named Umar un Nabi, who was the alleged car driver, was also killed in the explosion. Investigators said the body found in a burnt condition was identified through DNA testing.

Officials said that since Nabi has died, the case against him will be automatically dismissed. The remaining nine are currently in custody. The NIA filed a chargesheet of over seven thousand 500 pages in a New Delhi court on Thursday after months of investigation in four Indian states and the India-administered Kashmir region.

In a statement issued by the agency, it was claimed that all 10 people, including the main accused Dr. Umar un Nabi, are affiliated with a group called 'Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind'. This group is said to be linked to 'Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent' (AQIS), a branch of Al-Qaeda active in the Indian subcontinent.

There was some initial confusion regarding the death toll in the explosion. Hospital sources had reported 12 deaths, while officially 11 deaths were confirmed.

According to the NIA, the accused were also involved in illegally purchasing banned weapons. They have been accused of collecting weapons like assault rifles and planning to use improvised explosive devices (IEDs) via rockets and drones targeting security forces.

Officials involved in the investigation said that some of the accused are 'medical practitioners influenced by extremist ideology'. According to the chargesheet, at least five doctors are among the accused, most of whom are from the Kashmir region.

The Kashmir region has been divided between India and Pakistan since India gained independence from British rule in 1947. Both countries claim full sovereignty over this mountainous region. Insurgency and security operations have been ongoing there for decades.

Thousands of soldiers, militants, and civilians have lost their lives in the conflict with various armed groups active against Indian administration. India claims that rebel activities have been significantly weakened in recent years.

India and Pakistan accuse each other of supporting various armed groups. There have been long-standing accusations and counter-accusations between the two countries regarding some groups listed as terrorists by the United Nations.

However, the Indian side has not publicly accused the Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind group, linked to this incident, as a directly Pakistan-backed group.
