Australia to Support Strait of Hormuz Security Mission

Kathmandu. Australia is ready to support the defensive multinational military campaign launched under the leadership of Britain and France to secure shipping through the Strait of Hormuz waterway amid ongoing tensions in West Asia, it was stated on Wednesday.

Defence Minister Richard Marles said in a statement that Australia will contribute an aircraft for surveillance after the upcoming budget. Marles made this announcement after a meeting with defence ministers from more than 40 countries, where participants confirmed their support for the freedom of shipping through the Hormuz waterway.

He said the multinational military campaign is designed to complement ongoing diplomatic engagement and settlement efforts, demonstrating a concrete commitment to the security of international trade.

Warning that the longer this conflict lasts, the more significant the impact will be on Australia, he said the Australian government will continue to cooperate with its partners to support these efforts.
