One Arrested in Rautahat for Allegedly Beating and Forcing Woman to Eat Feces on Witchcraft Accusation

Rautahat. Police have taken under control one person involved in the inhuman act of beating and forcing a 55-year-old single woman to eat feces after accusing her of witchcraft in Katahariya Municipality of Rautahat. 

Shankar Majhi, 30, has been arrested on the charge of being involved in the incident that took place on Saturday in Dumariya Tole of Katahariya Municipality Ward No. 9.

Local individuals including Gauri Sah Kalwar verbally abused, dragged, and beat the woman, saying, 'She is a witch, she has made my relative's child sick.' Police have stated that during the beating, the victim woman was forcibly fed feces and subjected to inhuman and humiliating treatment.

After the incident, the victim woman filed a complaint at the Garuda Area Police Office on Sunday. A police team dispatched immediately after the complaint took Shankar Majhi, son of Fudeni Majhi, among those involved in the incident, under control.

According to Bishnu Pradip Basnyal, Information Officer and Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office Rautahat, efforts are underway to find other individuals involved in the incident. Police have stated that the process of further investigation and legal action against the arrested Majhi has been initiated.
