Iran's Foreign Minister Visits Russia Amid Tensions with US and Israel

Tehran. Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has reached Russia. He has gone to Russia with the aim of garnering President Vladimir Putin's support for Iran in the ongoing conflict with the United States and Israel. 

Amidst the conflict that has been ongoing for two months, peace efforts are weakening. Further obstacles to talks have emerged after Trump cancelled the visit of his envoys Steve Witcoff and Jared Kushner to Pakistan. Araghchi departed for Russia after meeting with mediators like Pakistan and Oman.

There remains a significant difference of opinion between the United States and Iran on issues such as Iran's nuclear program and control over the strategically important waterway, the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, Trump said in an interview: 'If they want to talk, they can come to us or call us. They know there is a telephone, we have a good and secure line.'

He also stated that Iran knows what should be in the deal and that it is very simple. He also emphasized that Iran should not have nuclear weapons. However, Iran has maintained its stance that its right to enrich uranium must be recognized.

The war has also impacted the global economy. Oil prices have risen due to the disruption of oil transport in the Gulf region, leading to market uncertainty. Although the war has currently stopped, no agreement has been reached for a permanent solution.

Iran is creating pressure for negotiations by using its capability to obstruct ship movement in the Strait of Hormuz, while the United States has imposed a blockade on Iranian ports. 

Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, in a conversation with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, stated that negotiations conducted under pressure or blockade are unacceptable. He has set the condition that the US obstruction must be removed first. 

The United States wants to reduce not only Iran's nuclear program but also its support for regional allied groups like Hezbollah and Hamas. Iran, on the other hand, has demanded the lifting of sanctions and an end to the attacks on its allies.
