US President Trump and officials targeted in shooting at Washington DC event

WASHINGTON DC. US officials have stated that shots were fired targeting US President Donald Trump and high-ranking officials of his administration at the Correspondents' Dinner. The shooting occurred on Saturday night amidst the White House Correspondents' Dinner ceremony at the Washington Hilton Hotel in Washington DC.

The accused, 31-year-old Cole Thomas Allen, has been arrested by the police. He is accused of firing shots at a security checkpoint near the event venue.

According to Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, preliminary investigations indicate that the President and his associates were the likely targets, although the motive for the incident is not yet clear.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation's Criminal and Counterterrorism Division is investigating this incident. Following the incident, security personnel immediately moved Trump to a secure location. He had told reporters, 'I don't think there's anything more dangerous than this profession.' The White House issued a statement mentioning Trump's fearlessness and described the incident as an assassination attempt.

During the event, First Lady Melania Trump and Vice President JD Vance were also safely escorted out by security personnel. Weijia Jiang, President of the White House Correspondents' Association, commented on the attack, calling it terrifying.

On Sunday, Jiang, who sat next to Trump at the dinner, thanked the Secret Service for their efforts in 'keeping thousands of guests safe.'
