Kajol Breaks 'No Kissing' Policy After 30 Years in Bollywood

Mumbai. Evergreen Bollywood actress Kajol has shared her experience of performing an onscreen 'kiss' for the first time in her 30-year-long film career.

Kajol, who strictly followed a 'no kissing policy' while starring in blockbuster films like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, broke that rule with the 2023 web series 'The Trial: Pyaar, Kaanoon, Dhokha'.

Speaking on Lilly Singh's podcast, Kajol clarified that this was not a personal desire but a demand of the character. Regarding the kissing scene with her co-star Jisshu Sengupta in the series, she said, 'Honestly, it was a requirement for the role. It wasn't just a kiss, but an important part of the character's mindset, desires, and the events in her life. If that scene had been removed, a significant part of the character would have remained incomplete.'

Kajol also revealed that she was under significant mental stress and felt uncomfortable during the shoot. Even upon reaching the set, she was doubtful about whether she could perform the scene. She said, 'I was very uncomfortable. I thought I might just say "cut" and refuse to do it! But ultimately, I took it as a professional decision and completed the shoot.'

In 'The Trial', which is the Indian adaptation of the American show 'The Good Wife', Kajol plays the role of Noyonika Sengupta, who returns to legal practice after her husband's scandal. With this series, available on JioHotstar, Kajol also made her debut in the world of OTT.
