Kathmandu Metropolitan City Initiates Discussions on Clearing Encroached Public Land

Kathmandu. Following reports that Prime Minister Balen Shah has directed security chiefs to clear encroached public land, Acting Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Sunita Dangol, has initiated discussions. Ward chairpersons of wards 11, 6, 17, and 32, along with Metropolitan Police Chief Bishnu Joshi, are participating in the meeting.

Prior to this, Chief District Officer of Kathmandu, Ishwaraj Paudel, had requested coordination with the metropolitan team. 'We have not received any information from the Prime Minister's Office yet, but we have already discussed the matter with the CDO. The metropolis will now facilitate and coordinate the work prepared by the federal government. That is why this discussion is taking place,' said one of the ward chairpersons participating in the meeting.

According to metropolitan sources, CDO Paudel stated that residents of the Thapathali settlement must be removed before the bulldozers arrive, and the assistance of the municipal police is required to ensure their belongings are kept safe. Accordingly, preparations are also being made to arrange temporary accommodation for the residents in hotels and lodges.
