Nine killed, foreign worker abducted in attack on Pakistan mining site

Islamabad. Nine people were killed and one foreign worker was abducted in an attack on an exploration and research site in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province, security sources said on Thursday.

According to Xinhua, sources speaking on condition of anonymity stated that the attack occurred at 7:00 PM local time on Wednesday at the exploration and research site operated by National Resources Limited in Chagai district.

Sources confirmed that the attack took place at a copper and gold exploration and research site. The terrorists used small arms fire and under-barrel grenade launchers during the attack, causing damage to fuel supplies and setting fire to three camps, the sources reported.

One terrorist was reportedly killed in retaliatory fire, while the remaining attackers fled the scene. Security forces have launched a search and investigation operation.

Among the deceased are three private security guards and six laborers, and no group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
