Gen-Z Movement Demands Resignation and Arrest of Home Minister Sudhan Gurung

Kathmandu. The Gen-Z Movement, Nepal, has submitted a formal request to the Police Headquarters demanding the immediate dismissal and arrest of Home Minister Sudhan Gurung to ensure an impartial investigation into the allegations against him. 

Movement spokesperson Bijay Shah stated that the formal request was submitted to the Inspector General of Police via an online portal on Sunday. 

The petition highlights that Minister Gurung remaining in office could influence the investigation process, creating a conflict of interest. Spokesperson Shah argued that conducting an investigation while the minister holds his position violates the principles of natural justice and prevailing Nepalese law. 

The movement asserts that as long as he remains in office, there is a risk of evidence being destroyed and justice being obstructed, necessitating his immediate detention for a fair investigation.

The Gen-Z Movement has also leveled political allegations against Minister Gurung. They claim he hijacked the Gen-Z movement under the guise of volunteering for water distribution, incited violence within the movement, and colluded with intermediaries for personal financial gain and political advancement. The petition notes that such actions dishonor the sacrifice of 76 martyrs and the movement's participants.

The movement has put forward four main demands: recommending the immediate dismissal of the Home Minister, his arrest and detention, a pressure-free and time-bound investigation, and the public disclosure of the investigation report. 

Spokesperson Bijay Shah has urged the police administration to initiate legal proceedings in accordance with the Police Act 2012 and the Criminal Procedure Code 2074. The police have not yet commented on the matter.
