Kathmandu Traffic Police Clarify Viral Video of Car Crash in Babarmahal

Kathmandu. The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office has issued a clarification regarding a viral social media video showing a car crashing into a roadside barrier while being stopped by traffic police in the Babarmahal section of Kathmandu. According to police, the accident occurred while they were attempting to intercept the vehicle, which was fleeing after hitting a motorcycle.

On the first day of the new year, 2083 Baishakh 1, police received a verbal complaint that a private car (Ba.Pra.01-029 Cha 6901) traveling from Baneshwor toward Maitighar had struck a motorcycle (Ba.Pra.02-037 Pa 0569) and fled the scene. Upon receiving the hit-and-run report, traffic police on duty at Babarmahal attempted to stop the vehicle.

Instead of stopping, the driver attempted to force the vehicle forward in an uncontrolled manner. Police stated that the car subsequently crashed into the roadside. Upon immediately removing the driver for inspection, it was discovered that he was under the influence of alcohol.

The police have confirmed that legal action is being initiated against the driver for driving under the influence and fleeing the scene of an accident, in accordance with the Motor Vehicle and Transport Management Act.
