Newly Elected Chairs of Federal Parliamentary Committees Take Oath of Office

Kathmandu. The newly elected chairs of the 10 thematic committees of the House of Representatives and two joint committees under the Federal Parliament took their oath of office and secrecy on Friday. Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal administered the oath to them at the Public Accounts Committee hall in Singha Durbar.

Deputy Speaker Ruby Kumari Thakur and Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sobita Gautam were also present at the swearing-in ceremony. Chairs were elected unopposed in nine House of Representatives committees and one joint committee, while elections were held for one House of Representatives committee and one joint committee.

The chairs were selected during meetings held on Friday. Samiksha Baskota was elected unopposed as chair of the Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee, Ashok Chaudhary for the Agriculture, Cooperative and Natural Resources Committee, Ashish Gajurel for the Infrastructure Development Committee, Aakriti Awasthi for the Women and Social Affairs Committee, Hari Dhakal for the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee, Bharat Bahadur Khadka for the Public Accounts Committee, Sumnima Udas for the International Relations and Tourism Committee, Krishna Hari Budhathoki for the Finance Committee, and Rahbar Ansari for the Industry Committee.

Bodhnarayan Shrestha was elected unopposed as chair of the joint Parliamentary Hearing Committee of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly. Among those elected unopposed, all except Public Accounts Committee chair Khadka are members of the Rastriya Swatantra Party. Khadka is a member of the Nepali Congress.

Elections were held for one House of Representatives committee and one joint committee. In the House of Representatives' Education, Health and Information Technology Committee, RSP MP Dr. Ojaswi Sherchan competed against UML's Guru Baral, with Sherchan emerging victorious.

For the Joint Committee on Monitoring and Evaluation of the Implementation of Guiding Principles, Policies and Obligations of the State, RSP's Ganesh Karki competed against CPN's Madan Kumari Shah (Garima), with Karki winning the election. All of them were administered the oath of office and secrecy today.
